For those who do not know, Charles Manson, he had spent nearly half his life in correctional institutions for a variety of offences. Before he was charged for murder, he was also a distant fringe member of the Los Angeles music industry.

He is also supposed to have ordered the killing of actress Sharon Tate and three of her friends at her place, a murder devised by him at the Spahn ranch

Manson who was given a death sentence initially was automatically reduced to life imprisonment with the Supreme Court of California’s temporary decision to eliminate the state’s death penalty. The later reestablishment of capital punishment, however did not affect Manson, who is now an inmate at the Corcoran State Prison.

Prosecuters said that Manson and his followers were trying to incite a race war that he believed was prophesised in the beatles song “Helter Skelter”.

Manson was denied parole last year, the 11th time since 1978 that the cult leader was ordered to continue serving life sentences for a murderous rampage in 1969.
