Announced Friday, Facebook is joining hands in an effort to making it easier for people to share their personal profile online.

This came as a result of growing interest among the users for such portability needs. Internet social networking giant, MySpace has also announced their launch of such a feature. While MySpace allows users to use their profiles in only a few websites, facebook has announced that the facebook profile can be carried to any site that wants to host them.

The actual portability will be possible after several weeks.

Google Inc, the internet search leader has last year created a network that will make it easier to share music, picture, hangouts and the likes. Its Open Social. While MySpace has joined OpenSocial, Facebook has not.

Facebook widget application will get a new boom with the portability kicking in. This is because developers stand to gain more now that the profiles will be used even outside of the site!

Graphene To Revolutionise Display Technology

No comment - Post a comment

Blackfield

Graphene is a derivative of Graphite (hexagonally bonded carbon). Scientists of the Manchester research team have found a way to use Graphene as electrodes in Liquid Crystal Displays which will help in making extremely thin displays. This is possible because the graphene layer is only one atom thick!!!

The research is still going on and the final products are expected to hit the market in the coming few years.

I guess postpone my plans of setting that Home theater… :)

New phones with roll up screen extension may not be that far off now!!!

Albert Hofmann, Inventor of LSD Dies

No comment - Post a comment

Albert Hoffman is a swiss chemist. He invented the hallucinogenic drug LSD. He died of a heart attack at his Basel home at the age of 102.

He first produced LSD in 1938 while researching the medicinal properties of a plant fungus (ergot fungus). He ingested some of it by accident and felt its hallucinogenic effects. On which, he commented saying “Everything I saw was distorted as in a warped mirror”. It was soon used as a common street drug by 1960. LSD is not addictive which makes it very different from other drugs.

The continued abuse of this drug forced countries to make it illegal. LSD is claimed by many researchers to be aiding as a psychotherapeutic drug. However, none of these claims have been officially accepted and this still remains a schedule 1 drug with no medical use.

Can Drinking Water Kill???

No comment - Post a comment

It came as a shock to me too… But, scientists say that excessive usage of drinking water can ultimately result in serious effects and even death. It is known that our body fluids need various salts to maintain the flow. For example, blood cells have salts and they use this water to maintain concentration. In a situation where water enters the body in huge quantities, the body is no longer able to maintain its stability and the cells get filled up with water due to a process called osmosis. This halts the functioning of the cells. Same is the case for brain cells as well. in such a situation, water stops all the functions of the vital organs by this imbalance. If this state continues, the body goes into COMA and eventually leads to death. This situation is called water intoxication.

So, the next time you exercise and need to drink water bear this in mind and drink a more isotonic solution, so that it helps balance the salts in your body meanwhile quenching your thirst.

Wesley Snipes To Serve 3 Years In Prison

No comment - Post a comment

OCALA, FL — Wesley Snipes was sentenced Thursday for failing to file income taxes he insisted he never had to pay.

The action star cut the federal government three checks for $5 million, delivered in court. The government took that money and more. Also a maximum three-year sentence for its highest-profile criminal tax target in decades.

“The sentencing court sends the right message to the American taxpayer — you’ve got to pay your taxes,” U.S. Attorney Robert O’Neill told reporters outside the Central Florida courthouse. “Rich, poor, it doesn’t matter. We all pay our taxes.”

Snipes was convicted of three counts of willfully failing to file returns. His trial was also considered by some as a proof of victory for the tax protest movement. He was acquitted of five other charges, which include felony tax fraud and conspiracy. This would’ve exposed him to 13 more years in prison.

Snipes’ attorneys argued that the sentence was too stiff for a first-time offender convicted of three misdemeanors. Recommending, he be given home detention and ordered to make public service announcements.

However, U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges said Snipes exhibited a “history of contempt over a period of time” for U.S. tax laws.

“In my mind these are serious crimes, albeit misdemeanors,” Hodges said.

The action star of the “Blade” trilogy and other films hasn’t filed any tax returns since 1998, the government alleged. Snipes and the IRS must still determine how much he owes, plus interest and penalties. The government alleged Snipes made at least $13.8 million for the three years in question, owing at least $2.7 million in back taxes on them alone.

Snipes read aloud from a prepared apology, calling his actions “costly mistakes” but, he never mentioned the word “taxes”. He called himself the victim of crooked advisers, a liability of wealth and celebrity that attract “wolves and jackals like flies are attracted to meat.”

“I am an idealistic, naive, passionate, truth-seeking, spiritually motivated artist, unschooled in the science of law and finance,” Snipes said.

His lawyers said he was no threat to society, and offered three dozen letters from family members, friends and even fellow actors Woody Harrelson and Denzel Washington attesting to his compassion, intelligence and value as a mentor. They called four character witnesses Thursday, including television’s Judge Joe Brown, who incited applause from the gallery by suggesting Snipes was no different than “mega-corporate entities” that legally avoid taxes.

Hodges was forced to halt the proceedings twice to quiet the crowd, also threatening to clear everyone out if they made another outburst.

Snipes’ co-defendants, Douglas P. Rosile and Eddie Ray Kahn, were convicted on both felony counts on which the actor was acquitted. Kahn, who refused to defend himself in court, was sentenced to the maximum 10 years, while Rosile received 4 and half years. Both will serve three years of supervised release.

Snipes and Rosile remain free and will be notified when they are to surrender to authorities. Defense attorney Carmen Hernandez signaled in court that Snipes would pursue an appeal.

Kahn was the founder of American Rights Litigators, and a successor group, Guiding Light of God Ministries, that purported to help members legally avoid paying taxes. Snipes was a dues-paying member of the organization, and Rosile, a de-licensed accountant, prepared Snipes’ paperwork.

The actor maintained in a yearlong battle with the IRS he did not have to pay taxes, using fringe arguments common to “tax protesters” who say the government has no legal right to collect. After joining Kahn’s group, the government said, Snipes instructed his employees to stop paying their own taxes and sought $11 million in 1996 and 1997 taxes he legally paid.

Defense attorneys Hernandez and Daniel Meachum said Snipes was unfairly targeted because he’s famous. Meachum called prosecutors “big game hunters”, selectively prosecuting the actor while Kahn’s some 4,000 other clients remained free.

The American Orient Express

No comment - Post a comment

The American Orient Express is currently operated by GrandLuxe Rail Journeys. You can also book train tours of the national parks of the west, the Rockies, Sierra Nevada, and Napa Valley, as well as tours of the Antebellum South and Mexico’s Copper Canyon through this company.

These trips generally run 4 to 10 days and can be booked by calling 800-269-6044.

Various accomodations are available from a standard Pullman car with upper and lower berths to a Presedential Suite.

The attire is casual and it is also advisable to bring walking shoes for the tours at frequent stops. There is also a gourmet restaurant and a pianist to play in the background. The best part is that the meals and hotels are all included in the price of your journey.

You will not have to worry about driving and can spend your time looking out the windows. Unlike an airliner, you will be part of the landscape and not high above it. For scenery and enjoyment there is nothing like a train ride.

If you want to see the beauty of America there is nothing like riding a train through the mountains and plains. You will not have to worry about driving and can spend your time looking out the windows. Unlike an airliner, you will be part of the landscape, not high above it. Global Warming Promocard_GlobalWarmingKristen Byrnes, a 15-year-old who lives in Portland, Maine, has delivered some shocking news striking a ray of hope for us who thought the world was doomed.

Young Kristen wrote a great thesis that which took her 4 months to compile for extra credit in her Honors Earth Sciences class. Meanwhile, she also maintained an average of 4.0 in all of her other Honors classes.

Her family is highly proud of her and so are many other for her efforts in compiling her information into an neutral note.

Kristen had a great way of analysing things. This particular story was, by the way, compiled after watching Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth.

You can read her article here.

I, however had a different outlook ont the issue (Global Warming), but i’d rather not dwell on that!
This girl has a great talent and should be appreciated for this skill she has.

Howard Stern and Artie Lange Go Separate Ways

No comment - Post a comment

Artie Lange courtesy: Comedy CentralArtie Lange was asked to leave the Howard Stern show on so called, “disciplinary grounds”. Lange had a fight with his personal assistant Teddy off air. The duo were asked to put forth their points of view on air. The discussion escalated, Lange became furious and even physically lashed at Teddy.

Stern expressed his displeasure in this issue for which Lange responded by offering his resignation. It was probably in a threatening manner, because Stern accepted his resignation. This event has brought mixed feeling among the (SFN) Stern Fans Network.

For those of you who have known Artie Lange, this episode would not come as a surprise since he has been responsible for many such things in the past, which have been quite turbulent.

Lange was one of the original nine cast-members of MADtv when the series debuted in 1995. Unlike some of his fellow cast-members on MADtv, Lange came to the show with limited sketch comedy experience as a stand-up comedian. Around this time he became heavily involved with drugs, particularly cocaine. He had stated that his lowest point of cocaine use occurred during a shooting of the MADtv sketch “Babewatch” (a parody of Baywatch) in which he played a pig lifeguard. Because the sketch involved going through hours of make-up to transform him into a pig, he snorted cocaine in his car in full pig make-up during a break in the shooting of the sketch. Upon returning from the shoot, he passed out in his hotel room, and woke up to find that he had defecated in his own bed.

After Lange served a short jail term and successfully completing a drug rehabilitation program, comedian Norm MacDonald offered him a part in the 1998 movie “Dirty Work”. While promoting the movie, McDonald brought Lange to The Howard Stern Show. Lange appeared on the show several times after, and was eventually asked to take over Jackie Martling’s chair when Martling left the Stern Show in 2001.

Even his personal life has been listless. He has always had health issues. From increase in weight to drug addiction to Sexually Transmitted Diseases Lange has experienced it all.The website artielangedeathwatch.com was started to predict when Lange would die if he continued this lifestyle. The site had projected that he would die at the age of 53.
